The Department of Haematology exists to provide comprehensive clinical and laboratory services to all patients with blood diseases, to teach the science of this subject to students and physicians and biologists and strive to enhance both these aspects through research and development

Research and Clinical trials

Research activities form an integral part of the work in the department which includes basic science, clinical and sponsored clinical trials. Graduate students play a vital role in departmental basic science research activities. Many faculty and graduate students have won awards for presentations in national and international conferences.

About Department

The Department of Clinical Haematology looks after and treats people with blood related disorders. These include blood cancers (Leukemia, Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma), disorders associated with low haemoglobin (various types of anaemia - including thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia), bleeding disorders (haemophilia and others), and other rare diseases. Stem cell transplantation for leukemias, lymphomas, myelomas and other disease like hemoglobinopathies, primary immunodeficiency etc are done in the department. The department is also engaged in teaching and training of doctors and medical students and is involved in various research activities.

The CIL-CMC Synergy creates charisma

Thalassemia and Aplastic Anemia are rare genetic disorders requiring painfully repetitive blood transfusions. Bone Marrow Transplant is a curative treatment of the disease but the cost of the treatment is too high and is out of the reach of economically weaker sections.

Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana is a unique CSR initiative of Coal India where we have tied up with eight major hospitals of the country and are providing financial assistance of up to Rs. 10 lakhs per patient for transplants of eligible patients.
